I've seen two lots of consultants come into our company, which is one of the biggest oil companies. They were all a bunch of newly graduated mammy's boys. They had never even seen an oilrig in their lives, but all of a sudden they were giving it all the 'touch base' and 'hit the ground running' bullcr*p.

Absolute nonsensical waste of time. They were with us for 12 weeks and cost 4.3 million pounds. For that extortionate amount of money, the only useful thing we got out of it was using action-logs instead of minutes, for our meetings.

Your work experience speaks well towards your ability to do graduate work. In the US, you will likely need the GRE as well to exhibit general competence at the graduate level. There should be no problem in switching fields, although there may be a small number of undergraduate courses you'll be required to take to fill in deficiencies (missing prerequisites for courses you want to take).

I expect that any university large enough to have a graduate program in your desired fields will also be willing to accept you with proper documentation. I recommend that you correspond with the graduate admissions office at a couple of schools to get a feeling for their requirements and desires for your situation.
