Marilyn Said:

Long-Term Capital Management question?

We Answered:

LTCM was using huge leverage. So they made or lost lots of money and really small movements.

do you mean "return" like gave back or that's the profit paid to investors?

If they had less leverage, then they'd need more money from investors to invest.

Eugene Said:

how can one give recommendations to a company regarding it's working capital management?

We Answered:

I would suppose that depends on what department of the company you are in. What role do you play? What is your standing within the company structure? If you think they are wasting or hiding funds, it would be difficult to say. You get my drift?? Like Enron?? BUT, if you have a bill of goods to sell, get your prospectus or proposal in line with your thoughts, set up an appointment with finance and see what they say. All they can do is say something like, "oh, well, we've got that, and this and that covered already. But thanks for your time." They'll give you one of their sweaty palm handshakes, but you'll leave that proposal on their desk anyway. Even if you can't get to first base with them, they will not forget what you put on paper and your ability to present the information you have. It may not show up for a time, but somewhere down the line when another issue comes up, they'll remember that 'someone' had addressed that situation a while back. Then they'll start hunting through their files to take another look...and guess who's name will be on it? Hope that helped.

Leona Said:

What kind of business might have a short cash conversion cycle? A long one? What makes the difference?

We Answered:

Generally, retail businesses would have shorter CCCs than manufacturing ones. A supermarket has a very short CCC. You can't keep eggs and milk and vegetables for long without them spoiling. They must be sold in a day or two, and usually for cash. The time from when the eggs are bought to when they're sold is only a couple of days.

A manufacturer of, say, motor vehicles or airplanes, would have long CCCs. The time from when all the parts along the supply chain are purchased to when the airplane is delivered can be years.

Edith Said:

Why does Hillary attack hedge funds, yet she takes donations from them and her daughter was hired by one?

We Answered:

Because she is and has always been a total phony. I'm really amazed so many people seem to miss that. I guess they are all caught up in her being a female and can't look beyond that.
