What are the thoughts of people of distance learning like online classes?

We Answered:

I have taken a few online courses. I took Accounting 2, Cost Accounting, and Taxation. I really didn't like it. They list off a bunch of assignments and due dates. You have to read the book on your own and learn it, do it, and post on the class board online if there's a problem. The professors have always taken a long time to respond. There is a live chat session a few times, but that's only so helpful, because they vanished after the allotted time.

The final exam is written at one of the schools listed for the course, the exam is usually worth about 40-60%. If you fail the exam, but still get over 50% on the course, you fail anyway.

I find seeing a professor do the stuff a few times, rather than reading and doing. My ADD doesn't like reading.

Are there any online resources or classes for learning advanced classical Japanese?

We Answered:

My husband and I have learned Spanish and Russian.
If you would like to explore other methods of learning I would also suggest these products that have helped us. We use BOTH the Rosetta Stone (a computer program) and the Pimsleur Method (audio cd's). These two are the best things on the market.

Each approaches learning the language a different way. And I have found using both really helps round out my learning.

The Pimsleur method is super fast and the best to start with. You are given 30 minute lessons you listen and speak with. You start with basic and keep adding until you are able to have a full conversion. They have 3 levels, you should start with the 2nd or 3rd, depending on how advanced you are.

Rosetta Stone will help with reading and the grammer. I found this to help complete what I was learning with Pimsleur. Rosetta Stone has a level one and two course. You may want to look at the second level.

There are a lot of sites to learn Japanese for free.
