Currently in school online for Medical Coding and Billing and need some info/opinions....?

We Answered:

I cant tell you whether it was a waste of time or not. Sorry

I can tell you that you will become certified with a CCS I assume or some other credential. The tests are not hard if you study, I would get a bit of work experience first. say 6 months or so. I reccomend you seek an RHIT next, and you can do that with an AAS degree. After that try the College of St Scholastica for an RHIA credential that will lead you into management posts.

Once you are certified you will need to obtain CEUs (continueing education units) these happen every two years and you can get these for a variety of this and usually all you need from your employer. Your supervisor should be able to offer you all you need or give you suggestions.

You can move anywhere as a coder or health care worker. We all need to utilize healthcare.

I was where you are 9 years ago and now I supervise a team of 12 staff and earn a great wage. Good luck to you!

medical transcriptionists!?

This is one of the lowest-paid careers. And one that has the least chance for advancement. It has traditionally been a job that people worked for a while , then quit. The down economy has changed that. People now want the job because it is secure.

You don't even need the 2 year degree if you are a good worker. It is more important to the doctor that you show up on-time and that you work hard. What degree you have is not nearly as important.

Visit a doctor's office near you tomorrow. If it is more than $15 an hour, ask who they know who is hiring today. If it is $15 an hour ( i think it is) reconsider your career choice. You can be a nurse in 2 years.

Does the FAFSA apply to non-continuing education course?

We Answered:

To be eligible for federal aid such as grants and loans, you must be working pursuing an eligible degree program. At most universities, the classes offered through the Continuing Education department are not courses that lead to a degree. That is, taking them doesn't let you graduate with a diploma. However, you should check with your school to ask whether the program you're considering is one that is eligible for federal aid. You may also want to look into any vocational or technical schools that are in your area, to ask whether they have such a program which is eligible for financial aid.

Sally Said:

Which of these courses from a local community college show maximum promise of a job?

We Answered:

I think both of the medical things are good, there is always high demand for that and plenty of work. I wouldn't recommend computer science unless it is something you are already good at/interested in. Its the kind of thing that involves some natural ability. Its also very hard to get a first job as there is a lot of competition for entry level positions.

Something else you might consider is medical technician of some kind (a nurse or a dental assistant), or physical therapy. These are all great careers that I think are growing in need.

Any opinions of the Medical Coding course offered by Kaplan Continuing Education?

We Answered:

I am not familiar with Kaplan but I have had experience with Career Step. They too are AHIMA approved and the course is all online. Here is a link to their course demo. There you can see what is covered so you have something to compare with Kaplan. http://www.careerstep.com/demo-cb/?uid=a…

Good luck!

How can i find a program online for RN....?

We Answered:

You cannot become a nurse online.Becoming a nurse involves going to classes, taking part in skills labs and working in clinical settings to gain practical experience. You cannot learn the hands on skills needed by sitting at a computer.Online schooling would not lead to you being about to qualify for a nursing license.
