How To Teach English

Leon Said:

What are the requirements to teach English to children in elementary school in Montreal, Canada?

We Answered:

You need a degree in Education.

Here is the information from the Quebec government: http://www.immigration-quebec.gouv.qc.ca…

Yvonne Said:

How do I teach English to 5 year olds as a second language?

We Answered:

Use lots of hands-on with real life items and lots of visuals. Talk about everything you see and do. They will pick up quickly, like sponges. Oh, and have them repeat things with you.

Jamie Said:

I want to teach English to beginners, but where to start?

We Answered:

There isn't a single curriculum because all learners are different. For example, if I were teaching a group of business people I'd teach them different English than if I were teaching a group of teenagers taking an exam or a group of adults learning English to go on holiday to England.

But at the beginners level there are a few basics you need to get sorted out: introductions, greetings, numbers, everyday nouns and phrases, etc.

I would strongly recommend getting a bit of training in if you don't already have it!

Sally Said:

How to teach English to children in villages with little exposure to English?

We Answered:

Try a TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) course. It's for native english speakers and I believe applies to teaching in any country. Type TEFL into google and you'll get any number of courses.

Veronica Said:

How can I teach English in a different country?

We Answered:

Search for TESOL courses (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages)
You can do these as weekend/evening courses spread out over a year or as a short intensive course.
My son did a 4 week course (at the time he also just spoke English) & the school he trained with also found him his first job. He now speaks fluent Spanish & has taught English to kids and adults in South America and Europe.
