Primary Teaching Job

Pauline Said:

Can an American with a teaching degree get a job teaching primary school in Ireland?

We Answered:

You need to apply for a provisional teacher certificate. To contact or see Ireland's Department of Education and Science website go to http://www.education.ie/home/home.jsp?pc…

Good Luck!!!

Joan Said:

How do I obtain a primary school teaching position in Ireland. I live in the U.S. and have a teaching degree.?

We Answered:

It is probably best to contact the Department of Education in any country where you'd like to teach.

They will be able to tell you what qualifications they need.

They will also be able to tell you whether they have shortages of teachers in the subjects/age range you want to teach.

Naturally any suitably qualified EU candidates will be able to work in Ireland as a right. From the US you will need a work permit and will probably need to demonstrate that there is no one in Ireland that could do the job.

Manuel Said:

If you are offered a primary school teaching job, are you more likely to get a letter or a phonecall?

We Answered:

In our school, what happens is that person who led the interview (most likely the Headteacher) will phone and let all candidates know on the day, and then it is followed up within 48 hours with a formal letter. You have to have a formal letter in writing, but they are able to make the offer, because it appears to be common practice to collect references for all interviewee's prior to interview. Sometimes, one of the other people on the interview panel will have the task of phoning as part of their professional development.

Natalie Said:

What's a job website where you can find primary/secondary teaching jobs?

We Answered:

nijobs.com is good.
It's name suggests that is it for the North Of Ireland only, but actually there are jobs throughout Ireland advertised on the site.
Good Luck to you :-)

Erica Said:

how to find primary teaching job if you are overseas teacher and whos teaching degree is not recogniseby NARIc?

We Answered:

We study but don't always get what we wanted. I would go for a UK qualification and look for supply teaching jobs. There are many around. Just contact each school and they will tell you where they look for teachers.

Lois Said:

Are there jobs in primary school teaching? What is the job situation for NQT`s?

We Answered:

I agree with what the others say, it has a lot to do with where you plan to work. When you apply for an NQT position you have to be flexible where travel is concerned. I live in Scotland and there are quite a few unemployed NQT's. However if you get a really good qualification you have a better chance.

One problem is how many schools are the government planning to shut down in your area? If any!

and how badly was your local council hit in the recession? Are they cost cutting?

In my school 3 teachers left at the end of term however only one teacher has been employed to replace them.

What I would suggest is ask your local job-centre, local primary school and also local council for there opinions and keep and eye out on your local council vacancy website and jobs in teaching websites to see how many jobs are coming up in your area just now - the number won't change much in 3 - 4 years

In Scotland the government believes that only around 30% of NQT's find full time permanent work in schools and our statistics are supposed to be even if not better than England's.

Marlene Said:

When applying for a Primary School teaching job is it the school or council that decide the shortlist? UK?

We Answered:

If it is a specific school (not pool),the Head and a couple of Governors will decide on a shortlist, before the interviews. If it is a Church school,a Vicar/Priest will be involved.
Good luck.
