Reading Teaching Strategies
Karen Said:
What other reading strategies would be good with 7th and 8th graders? We Answered:
Try having one student come up and pretend to be the teacher and call on other students to read.or
Put them into groups of 4 where one person is the reader, one person asks questions about what was read for a summary, one person finds words that they might not understand and they try to figure out the meaning through the context, and one person asks a few factual questions.
It also depends on what you are reading. If it is nonfiction and can be read out of order, assign groups certain chapters and give them projects where they have to teach the other students about what they read.

i would like to know suggestions for doing an action research in teaching of reading strategies/ motivation ?We Answered:
Depending upon the amount of time you have to complete your action research, you can vary my ideas.I would begin by selecting two short stories. The first should be a bit longer, and rich with descriptive detail and the second should be a bit shorter with less detail, and perhaps be a bit less interesting. Provide pre-reading activities and be far more excited about the longer one and less interesting in the short one. Poll students afterward which story they preferred and describe why.
Then, allow students to choose their own short story either from the library, or from a collection of short stories. Each student must read their chosen story, and then rewrite the story's ending and animate their own story. Students must then read their stories to the class and present their drawings. Have students evaluate the experience and enthusiasm for this activity.
Your findings will tell you:
eagerness/motivation -
interest -

Was I unclear about teaching reading to students who speak Ebonics? We Answered:
Anyone in this country should learn proper American English. After they learn and understand it I say they can speak whatever way they like.Clifton Said:
What are some strategies for teaching difficult reading material to not-so-good high school readers? We Answered:
have them act out the scenes. It gets everyone up and moving instead of sleeping, and you remember things better if you actually do them instead of just reading about it.
