I suppose it all comes down to what kind of a learner you are. Some people make lists and just memorize them, others resort to say flashcards. Those are cards where on one side you have a picture of something and then on the other the word for it. But you can also use flashcards to learn grammatical structures. If you plan on teaching someone you can play a game and by means of it introduce the new/unknown vocab. I think it always helps to learn words in a context. You could also visualize what you are to learn and that way make it easier to remember. Instead of figuring out how to remember say: pencil, soap, Adam, amazing. Turn it into a story.
As adam was trying to sharpen the pencil he slid on the soap and fell. that was amazing.

The weirder the story the easier it is to remember the words ;)

Have your students do a seven day weather broadcast ( like on the news) for the rest of the class. Or have them make a farmers almanac so that way they use most if not all the words they learn.
