Teaching Early Childhood Education
Terry Said:
Can I go back to college to get an early childhood education teaching degree? We Answered:
You can do that. I don't know why you would. That seems like a waste of time since you can get your teaching license and start teaching as long as you have a bachelors(at least that's what the law is in my state) and several universities offer masters for teaching and will place you in teaching programs.Lauren Said:
Has your thinking changed regarding Early Childhood Education since teaching or while in school? We Answered:
Well I'm still in college studying but I graduate in a year. I feel like in high school, and when I was younger, I didnt quite understand fully the responsibility put on teachers to educate their students. They have to not only teach them about history and math but also things we dont even think about now that we are older...like reading, writing and social skills for instance. I think society as a whole doesnt understand or even think about how important early childhood education is for our young citizens. When I tell people I'm going to be an elementary school teacher, they always respond with, "I could -never- deal with those kids all day!!" but in my eyes it's way more than that. I feel like some people only see ECE people as baby sitters but in reality, we are setting these children up to be successful in middle, high and even college. They wouldnt succeed without the basic knowledge we instill in them.Teaching early childhood education from a wheelchair do I have a chance? We Answered:
I' am a parent of a 6 year old and It is my personal opnion that a person in a wheelchair would just as good as one not ina wheel chair, with one exception. A teacher in a wheel chair would get my child used to seeing some one disabled, and he would be less likely to stare in wonder at them in the grocery store.A child should be taught to respect their teacher no matter what. A prime example, I don't like my childs bus driver, I don't like the way she talks to the students, and I dont think her rules are fair. However, I taught my son, you don't always have to like the rules, and you dont have to like what is expected of you, but this is an adult, who is in charge of you, and you DO have to do what you are told, and respect that person.
and I would think, being in a wheel chair, you would be more eye lever with the students, which would be better for the children. I wasn't aware of this issue, but come to think of it, I have never met one single teacher in a wheel chair...I'm sorry you having to deal with thie prejudice in this day in age, but if you were a teacher at my sons school or were at his preschool or his daycare I would have had no problems with it

Teaching assistant to Early Childhood Education, associates? We Answered:
Depends on where and what sort of setting you want to teach. In a public school, which more and more preschools are popping up, you will need a Bachelor's. For daycare and private preschool setting, an associates will do, but you would really need to check into your state's regulations to see what is required. I know that I had an assistant that had her child development associates and could not teach in the public school setting, but could in a daycare setting with 2 year olds.Debbie Said:
Looking to get into teaching? Early Childhood Education? We Answered:
Well depending on the state you can get an early childhood job with no classes or one to two classes. But to get a good early childhood job you need at least an associates degree which will take a full two years. Some places will not hire you as a lead teacher without a bachelors degree (4 years) though. It really depends on the state and the place you would like to work,
